When the weather outside is frightful, it can be difficult to think about going outdoors, especially when traveling to a new city. Luckily, here in Charlottesville there are a host of indoor activities that you can enjoy during those nasty days. From escape rooms, museums, movies to trampoline parks and more, you will not run out of things to do when it is cold and raining outside, check out these suggestions!
Games and Activities
Whether you are looking for indoor activities to do with your family or with your friends, rainy days are the perfect time to get creative. There are several fun activities that are perfect for rainy days. Make a reservation for one of Charlottesville’s Escape Rooms such as C’ville Escape Room, Immersion Escape Room, and Unlocked History Escape Room, all of which vary in themes and difficulty. There is also the Bowlero Charlotteville’s Bowling Alley which offers arcade games, night bowling, food, and a sports bar in addition to regular bowling.
Museums and Galleries
Museums are a wonderful way to learn something new. They offer a terrific way to explore a variety of cultures, history, or modern art. Check out the workshops and creative programs many of Charlottesville’s Museums offer while you are there. Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Museum, the only museum in the United States dedicated to Indigenous Australian art, offers an interactive, participatory activity where kids and adults, can reflect on and share their experience of the current exhibitions. The Fralin Museum of Art features permanent art exhibits from around the world dating from ancient times to the present day. There are also many public galleries, most of which reside in the downtown mall that are fun to visit.
Theater and Performing Arts
Going to movies during inclement weather is a good but obvious choice. However, for a more unique movie going experience check out the Alamo or Violet Crown (hybrid restaurant / movie theaters) in which you can enjoy relaxing in an easy chair while consuming a delicious meal during the show. It is also worth checking out the schedule at downtown Charlottesville’s Paramount Theater, a refurbished historic theater which offers unique live on-screen entertainment, old movies and occasional live shows which feature well-known comedians.
Other Activities
The Glass Palette is another great rainy-day option open! Here friends or families with children aged 5 and up are invited to explore the excitement and fun of creating with glass. They supply the materials, tools and instructions. However, be sure and make reservations first as this is a reservation only facility. For something completely different try Get Air Trampoline Park, this unconventional facility offers the opportunity for family and/or friends to jump together on trampolines, play dodgeball, or navigate a ninja course. Club Air is available every Friday and Saturday night, which features dance music and jumping on trampolines.
Conclusion
Whether you are visiting or living in Charlottesville it is never fun when the weather is bad; it can be difficult to think about what to do or where to go but luckily, there are a host of indoor activities you can find here. Rainy days may be the perfect day to take the opportunity to do something different or learn something new.
