about North, Greene, and Madison

A considerable part of western Madison County is situated within the Shenandoah National Park, which includes noteworthy landmarks such as Hawksbill Mountain, the highest point in both the park and Madison County, and Old Rag Mountain, a popular tourist destination.  The town of Madison, along with six other small villages reside within the county. 

For visitors interested in exploring outdoor adventures, there are a wide range of outside activities, such as civil war trails, camping, horseback riding, fishing, backpacking, and birding.   

Situated within Greene County are the small towns of Standardsville and Ruckersville. Greene County offers one of the few gateways to the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah National Park, which is accessible by car and on foot providing visitors, cyclists, and hikers, with incredible views and the natural splendor of the Piedmont.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll love exploring the historic sites in Standardsville. The town is home to several well-preserved buildings that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Ruckersville
