Go on a Foodie Adventure

Discover The Taste of Charlottesville

Charlottesville, Virginia is the perfect place for a food adventure! With its wide array of restaurants, there’s something for everyone. Inspired by the Progressive Dinner parties of the 1990’s we’ll be exploring three different restaurants on this ultimate one-night food adventure, From Vivace for appetizers to Tavern and Grocery for dinner and Petit Pois for dessert this food expedition is sure to take your taste buds on a culinary journey you will not forget. This is the perfect way to capture an array of the city’s different flavors if you have limited time to enjoy a night out. Whether it’s your first time in Charlottesville or you’re a local, you don’t want to miss out on an opportunity to explore the city’s flavorful side.

Tips for a Successful Food Adventure

Make a reservation. This may be obvious, but you don’t want to miss out on these amazing restaurants because you didn’t make a reservation. Make sure you have plenty of time between each reservation so you can relax and enjoy each course and have enough time to get to your next destination. Below are my three suggestions however with so many restaurants to choose from you can design your own food adventure. Click here for a list of restaurants. You can also switch things up next time by trying your three favorite restaurants in a different order. Instead of Vivace for Appetizers try it for dinner next time.

Appetizers

This Italian-inspired restaurant is the perfect place to start your food adventure. Vivace serves the most amazing appetizers that will leave you wanting more. With more than several options to choose from, it’s impossible to make a bad decision when ordering your starters. My personal favorite is the calamari which is flash fried with cherry peppers served with marinara and smoked tomato aioli for dipping. You’ll want to savor every bite of this dish.

Dinner

For your main entreé, you will want to head over to Tavern and Grocery, a restaurant that gets its name from a most auspicious history. The building dates to 1820. Once a boarding house, tavern and grocery, hence the name, it was the first African American business in Charlottesville.  With an emphasis on seasonality many of the food items are locally sourced including vegetables and herbs grown on their own farm just down the road in Keswick. Tavern and Grocery also keeps a large flock of hens o their farm where they gather their eggs, and all the meats are from local organic farmers.

Dessert

For the crowning glory head over to Petit Pois for a dessert and coffee to end your food journey. Petit Pois is known for its delicious desserts. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, this is the perfect spot to finish off your yummy adventure. You can’t go wrong with any of these desserts. They’re all delicious and will satisfy your sweet tooth.

Conclusion

Charlottesville is the perfect place to go on a food adventure, especially if you’re wanting to try several different places in a limited amount of time. From Italian-inspired appetizers to an eclectic  gourmet dinner to a French dessert, this one-night food excursion is the perfect way to experience a wide array of flavors and cultures. What are you waiting for? Go on a food adventure.
