Shenandoah National Park-Camping

WELCOME

Camping in Shenandoah National Park offers the perfect chance for an adventurous outdoor experience where you can get back to nature, sleep under the stars, and watch the sunrise. Spend time in the mountains amidst the flora and fauna and take a moment to savor a fresh cup of coffee over morning birdsong, and to commune with nature.

There are a few campsites with different amenities within driving distance of the Charlottesville region.

Check out Big Meadows Campground, which offers sites for tents or RVs, along with fire rings and picnic tables. This campground is open in the spring, summer, and fall but is reservations only. Camping in Big Meadows allows for easy access to popular destinations such as Big Meadows, Dark Hollow Falls, and Byrd Visitor Center.

If you are looking for a site at Loft Mountain Campground, reservations are highly recommended, especially on weekends and holidays. Loft Mountain Campground is the largest campground in the park and is situated on top of Big Flat Mountain.

And for group camping options, be sure to check out Dundo Group Campground, which features fire rings and picnic tables and is conveniently located along the Appalachian Trail. Nearby you can also find Doyles River along with many other popular trails in the South District.
