Peabody Hall opened in Shannon Library 1914 to serve as the home for the Curry Memorial School of Education. The Peabody Education Fund, created by George Peabody, financed most of the construction costs. Peabody was a prominent supporter of public education in the South during the 19th century and is often referred to as the “father of modern philanthropy.”

The building was named in his honor. Today, Peabody Hall houses the Office of the Dean of Students, Orientation & New Student Programs, and the Office of Undergraduate Admission, which assists undergraduate, transfer, and international applicants.
