What started out as a cart selling coffee on the Historic Downtown Mall twenty years ago has now evolved into two different store locations in Charlottesville and one in Crozet. This local café has mastered the art of coffee by starting with great beans produced by small farms across the globe such as Ethiopia, Panama, and Indonesia. Proprietors make certain the beans they purchase have organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest, 4C, and bird-friendly certifications.
The Mud House on the downtown mall has been a gathering place for locals, students and tourists for many years. Frequently you will see patrons seated at outside tables engaged in what appears to be riveting conversation while sipping their cups of steaming coffee, recalling the old coffee houses born of the Beatnik generation.
While the downtown shop is smaller and more intimate, the Mudhouse in Crozet is spacious and comfortable. Here the café offers a larger selection of baked goods and sandwiches. A perfect spot to meet friends and sip a cup of joe. This is also a nice pit stop before meandering into the Blue Ridge mountains for a morning hike or exploring nearby wineries and breweries.
However, the Mud House’s newest location on The Corner is a convenient gathering spot for early rising students looking for a cup of joe to start their day or for an afternoon boost while studying.
