A glass door allows visitors to peer into the room where Edgar Allan Poe is believed to have lived during his time as a student at the University of Virginia in 1826. Located on the West Range of UVA’s historic Academical Village, the room has been preserved and furnished to reflect the appearance of a student room from Poe’s era.

The Raven Society, which has cared for Poe’s room for more than a century, has helped furnish and preserve the space with period-appropriate pieces and historic items. Although not all of the furnishings belonged to Poe, they help visitors imagine what student life was like during his brief time at the University.
Visitors can view the room through the glass and learn more about Poe’s time at UVA. The room remains one of the University’s most distinctive literary landmarks and a popular stop for visitors interested in Edgar Allan Poe and American literary history.
