Carter Mountain Orchard is a family-owned and operated farm located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The orchard is situated on the top of a mountain, providing visitors with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The orchard has been in operation since 1912 and has been passed down through five generations of the Chiles family. Today, the orchard is run by the Chiles family and their dedicated team of farmers and staff. 

Carter Mountain is open all year round with varying seasonal hours. During the peak season, the orchard is bustling with activity, as families come from all over to pick their own apples. Visitors can wander through designated areas of the orchard and pick their own apples straight from the trees, however there is a fee which must be paid ahead of time. Only containers provided by the orchard are permitted for your apple picking excursion. 

Carter Mountain Orchard grows a variety of apples, including Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Granny Smith. Each apple variety has its own unique flavor and texture, making it easy to find a favorite. 

In addition to apple picking, there is a country store and bakery stocked with ready picked produce, gifts, home décor, and specialty foods and drinks which include baked goods, ice cream and cider.
